A domain name is the web address that you type in to get to a website. Although the Internet originated in the United States, the international user base now surpasses that of the US. Furthermore as China, India, and other emerging economies continue to grow, having an international domain name can be helpful if you wish to build a brand or market outside of the US.

Instructions:

   1.Go to a domain registrar. There are dozens that are available. A few that you can consider are Register.com, Name.com, and Godaddy. Domain prices will vary depending on what type of address or which country you select. As of 2010 prices range from .99 to $35.00.

   2.Choose a name. Once you have decided where to register your domain, enter the name that you have chosen into the search bar at the top of the page. It is best to make the name only one or two words if possible and to only use letters and not numbers. If the address has already been registered the engine will tell you. If not you can continue to the payment screen.

   3.Pay with a credit card or Paypal. After payment you will need to register your particulars such as your email, name, address and phone number. You will also have to register your technical contact's details as well. This can be you or a webmaster who manages your site.

   4.Use an international domain registrar. If you want to register a country specific domain such as a .JP (Japan) .NL (Netherlands) or .FR (France), then you will need to find a registrar that is licensed to sell domains for that country. Note that the registrar doesn't necessarily have to be located in the country.
