Apple's disclosure of government query user data

Apple Inc. (Apple) disclosed the government agencies required to provide information on the number of users, becoming the latest technology company to take such action. Apple is the first company to disclose separately the number of government inquiries user devices and user account information number of the company.

Apple also joined the ranks of other technology companies, requiring the government to allow them to further disclose the reasons of national security information regarding user data queries.

Apple stated in a report that in the first six months, the company received a total of U.S. law enforcement agencies about 3,542 times 8,605 queries a device's information requirements. Apple indicated the data requirements of the vast majority of queries are related with the phone lost or stolen. The company indicated that 88% of the inquiries requested data.

Apple is following Google, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft and Yahoo published a similar report after disclosure of the above information. These reports did not provide involving the National Security Agency or confidential user data queries court's detailed situation. U.S. secret court under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to monitor the handling of confidential foreign instruction.

Apple in another part of the report, indicated that in response to government agencies query the user data, Apple and many other companies practice, Apple's main business has nothing to do with collecting user information. Apple is not interested in collecting personal information about customers.

Google and Facebook spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

For the Government of the user account data query, Apple disclosed information is vague.Because some query request is made the way of national security letters, while the government banned the recipient disclose the specific number of such letters. Apple claimed that in January-June this year, the company received
1,000-2,000 ,2,000-3,000 times and accounts related data query requests. Facebook and Microsoft is also similar to that disclosed information is given in a number of intervals.

Apple claimed that the company plans to submit an indictment later this year, to join Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo and LinkedIn's camp, asking the Government to allow them to disclose the receipt of national security letters for more information. Apple indicated that the company strongly recommends that the government cancel the gag order, allowing companies to disclose complete and accurate number.

Apple had released a report in July, saying in December 2012 to May 2013 from U.S. law enforcement agencies received 4,000-5,000 Ci customer data queries. But both devices including account data query requirements.
