The value of foreign currency in 2013 will increase so much it’ll help IT spending account for $3.7 trillion during the course of 2013: That’s the projection Gartner announced Thursday.

The totality of that represents a 4.2% spending increase compared to 2012. Gartner had revised its projection, up from a previous forecast made during the third quarter of last year.

Despite a higher uptick in spending, Gartner managing VP Richard Gordon emphasized some concern in a press release. “Uncertainties surrounding prospects for an upturn in global economic growth are the major retardants to IT growth,” he commented.

And although pessimism throughout the IT community persists, Gordon also expects that to subside with its conclusion playing an important factor in a more optimistic projection for the new year.

Gartner broke down anticipated spending between several sectors. In 2013, the firm expects funds spent on data center systems to grow by 4.5%, accounting for $147 billion dollars. Enterprise software, meanwhile, is expected to grow by a staggering 6.4%, drawing in cash worth $296 billion.

As for IT services, $927 billion is expected to be spent, an uptick of 5.2% compared to last year. Gartner’s study also tracked devices and telecom services.

Last year in March, Gartner projected data center statistics. At the time, Gartner found IaaS and cloud to represent 42% of the industry.
