Cloud hosting provider Savvis announced on Tuesday that it has added virtual hosting services to its web hosting portfolio in China.

Cloud computing, managed hosting and colocation services are currently available at its data centers in Hong Kong,Singapore and Tokyo, and now Savvis has added virtual hosting services to the mix.

This news comes just over a month after Savvis completed its acquisition of Ciber’s IT outsourcing business for $6 million.

Savvis says the new virtual hosting services simplify the process of getting web content into China,while achieving the end-user

experience benefits of a local web presence.

Savvis distributes web content to end-users in China through a network of in-country CDN nodes.

Complex laws,poor interconnectivity and latency issues in China make it difficult for foreign websites,since many global brands with online businesses have a hard time obtaining licenses for hosting content in China, according to Savvis.

“Chief marketing officers know that China is one of the most desirable markets in the world, but complicated regulations and other issues prevent their e-commerce sites, online product promotions and other web content from reaching this coveted audience,” Mark Smith,

managing director, Asia, at Savvis said in a statement.“Savvis’new virtual hosting service expands our array of enterprise-class

offerings,making it easy for companies to enter the Chinese market and satisfy the consumer appetite for websites of foreign brands.”

In June, Savvis announced that it would open a data center in Singapore to serve market demand for its enterprise cloud, managed

hosting, network and colocation services.

Data center provider Equinix acquired Asia Tone earlier this year to strengthen its footprint in Asia, specifically to support demand from

multinational customers looking to expand in China.
