ABU DHABI - The increasing use of Arabic domain names, especially in education, has come in for praise from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

The TRA, on Sunday, lauded the Ministry of Education for launching the ‘DarajatiDotEmarat’ domain to help students and parents check examination results online in Arabic.

Muhammad Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said: “We are pleased for the recent domain DarajatiDotEmarat initiative launched by the Ministry of Education. The new initiative aims at creating ease in checking examination results by using their mother tongue.’’

Ghanim said it was encouraging to see governmental organisations adopt Arabic domain names in the UAE. ‘‘Such a move indicates that the initiative launched by the TRA has reached to operational and deployment levels.

The TRA plans to use Arabic in e-addresses to attract more local users to the internet. The registration for government entities and trademarks owners was completed in May this year. It will launch next month.
