Facebook Still in Dispute With Organization that Sold it FB.com for $8M+

  •       Now that we know how much FB.com sold for, you may be surprised that Facebook is still embroiled in a dispute with the seller.

We now have a better idea how much Facebook paid for FB.com — likely $8 million or more.

Given this high number it’s shocking that the social network hasn’t yet settled its trademark dispute with seller American Farm Bureau.

American Farm Bureau challenged Facebook after the latter filed a trademark for “FB”. While the dispute was ongoing Facebook bought the FB.com domain name through intermediary DNStinations.

Yet the dispute wasn’t resolved with this purchase, despite what Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg told a crowd after announcing that the company had acquired the domain name.

Facebook and American Farm Bureau’s case is currently suspended pending resolution at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The non-profit filed a document with the USPTO the day after Zuckerberg’s comments stating that the case still hadn’t been resolved.

It amazes me that the domain name purchase wasn’t part of a final settlement.
