      If your current registrar is charging big bucks for your domain name registration, it is wise decision to change the registrar. This will benefit you in the long run and more so when you have several domain names.

But before you go ahead with transferring your current domain registration, you need to keep following things in mind:

    * It is always safe to first renew the domain name registration for one year, if it is about to expire. Once it is renewed, you can opt for the transfer. You will come in trouble, if your registration expires before the transfer process gets complete.
    * You got to check your registration details and see if your name is in the administrative contact and email address matches with your business or personal email address.
    * Now you need to unlock the registrar lock on your domain. A domain lock prevents domain from transferring.
    * Next step is to provide an authentication code to the new registrar. An authentication or a security code is like a password.  If you don’t have authentication code, you need to contact your existing registrar.
    * Next thing you need to do is transfer your domain by filling a form where you enter your domain name. Also you need to pay the transfer fee.
    * Confirm the transfer by responding to the mail sent by your existing registrar for the release of domain.
    * Finally your name servers will be reset by the new registrar.

But care should be taken while selecting a new registrar, because there are many unscrupulous registrars who are waiting to dupe you.
