NIRA offers 50,000 free .ng domain names

      NIRA (Nigeria Internet Registration Association) decided to release 50,000 free .ng domain names for Nigerians.The registration period runs until March 21,2011. Mrs Mary Uduma,president of NiRA said that the National Information Technology Development Agency will provide the necessary funding for the project.

      “This sense of identification is tied to our perceptiveness of the collective responsibility required to project the true and appropriate Nigerian image and our conviction that the nation’s country code, Top Level Domain .ng, is a veritable tool towards achieving this. To this effect, we have chosen to partner with the Ministry of Information and Communications in the re-branding Nigeria Project with the offer of 50,000 free .ng domains in 50 days.”,she added.

      Moreover,the National Information Technology Development Agency wants to train Nigerians youths as web developers.

      The offer of free .ng domain names is restricted to : .com.ng , .org.ng , .name.ng , .mobi.ng and .sch.ng.

In order to register a domain name you should know that:

-The domain name is for free for one year.After that you will have to pay the renewal fee.
-Domain names that are not used within sic months will be withdrawn .
-All domain names must be in compliance with NIRA Domain Name Policy
