The Financial Times has revealed that Facebook tried to buy Twitter in 2008.
The UK daily said Twitter had turned down a 500 million dollar purchase offer from Facebook.
Twitter inventors, including co-founder Biz Stone, said they wanted Twitter to become a viable business rather than a take-over site.
Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg offered the money but Stone said Facebook had nothing that Twitter’s three co-founders, Stone, Evan Williams and Jack Dorsey, wanted.
Twitter had 175 million registered users as of November 1st.
