Businesses looking to counter Google's move into the lucrative local advertising market in the US have launched an 'anti-Google' alliance of sorts, attempting to prevent the search engine giant from a getting a hold on the market.
According to TechCrunch, several local listings companies that feel threatened by Google have teamed up with a New York based start-up called Yext to launch a new service called Tags, that would allow businesses to list their services across major listing websites.
Some of the companies taking part in the anti-Google alliance include MapQuest, Citysearch, Yellowbook, Local.com, SuperPages, White Pages, MerchantCircle, and Topix.
The new service will let the businesses label their listings with a small colored tag that would make them stand out in a search on a local listing website. The tag will contain additional information about the business, discounts and mobile coupons.
Google already offers a similar service for local businesses to highlight their establishment on Google Maps, Google Places and its massive search engine.
