Today on Mediabistro’s Media Beat interview, host Donya Blaze talked with Marissa Mayer, VP of consumer products at Google. It appears that Google is moving on from Groupon’s refusal of their $6 billion offer and are looking at how they can take some of their existing technology to create a Groupon-like service.
It’s been noted by many critics that the Groupon model is an easy one to duplicate and that eventually that will mean the downfall of the coupon king. Thus far Groupon has continued to crush the competition… or to outpace them by a considerable margin.
But now with Google possibly entering the daily deals arena, the tables could turn. By comparison, Google makes Groupon seem pretty puny and the search engine giant has enough cash and business connections along with a huge consumer base that if they’re out to exact revenge on Groupon it will be an easy KO.
