The Top 10 '.HK' Website Competition for 2010 has opened. The competition aims to recognise outstanding '.HK' websites that have innovatively leveraged the Internet and social media platforms to enhance their businesses.

The competition is organised by the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) and builds on the success of last year's competition. The 2010 competition will see a number of new elements including a category created for large corporations and not-for-profit organisations with 100 employees or more, a "Best New .HK Website Award" given to the most outstanding SME website which has been established no longer than one year as a token of support and encouragement for newly established websites, and public voting on shortlisted '.HK' websites to promote community involvement. The category for SMEs and not-for-profit organisations with less than 100 employees category remains a part of this year's Competition.

The adoption of social media and online marketing has become inevitable for enterprises of any scale across different industries. According to Nielsen's latest Online AdRelevance report, spending on online advertising in Hong Kong accelerated in the last quarter of 2009 and peaked at HK$255 million, a year-on-year increase of 22%, contributing to total spending of HK$869 million for the full year.

"The rising popularity of online marketing represents both opportunity and challenge to businesses and the community. With the mission of fostering e-commerce and Internet development in Hong Kong, HKIRC has organised the Top 10 '.hk' Website Competition for the second year to reward outstanding '.hk' websites that can be role models for others to learn from," said Mr. Jonathan Shea, CEO of HKIRC.

The Competition is a unique and effective platform to showcase the benefits and opportunities brought by the Internet and the '.hk' domain to businesses and organisations, as well as to promote awareness and use of the online platform by the community at large.

Both SMEs and not-for-profit organisations with less than 100 employees, and large corporations and non-profit organisations with 100 employees or more are invited to enter. Judges will rank the entrants based on criteria such as industry innovation, look-and-feel and ease of navigation, interaction, domain innovation and relevance, and contribution to society. The Golden Prize winner of each category will be awarded HK$20,000, in addition to a certificate, trophy and logo exposure on promotional materials. The brand new "Best New .HK Website Award" winner will receive HK$10,000.

The application period for the Competition runs until 12 November 2010. Shortlisted best practices will be open for public voting from 16 to 28 November 2010. Results will be announced on 21 December 2010 and the awards presentation ceremony will be held in early 2011.
