Open-source DNS security provider OpenDNS announced on Tuesday it has launched a new management console and business processes that enable solution to customers more quickly and profitably.

The move comes a few weeks after distributed denial of service protection services provider Prolexic successfully mitigated what it says is the “largest DNS reflection attack ever recorded.”

The solution’s multi-tenant dashboard for centralized provisioning with monthly billing and volume pricing senables MSPs to easily protect customers against malware, botnet and phishing threats.

The cloud-delivered Umbrella service enables MSPs to deliver malware, botnet and phishing protection for customers without deploying or maintaining any customer premises equipment.

The new OpenDNS management console provides partners with centralized control over a shared pool of Umbrella licenses that can be deployed elastically to protect customer networks from malware and enforce appropriate use policies.

The new dashboard enables MSPs to provision new customers with one click, deprovision customers with one click and reclaim licenses, access a centralized view of customers and licenses, assign monthly billing, update credit card/self-service information for recurring billing, and use ready-made scripts for RMM deployment to laptops.

The managed service provider market is a key growth sector for OpenDNS, with 1,400 MSPs currently using Umbrella to protect more than 20,000 customer networks.

The company’s new automated management capabilities, monthly billing and volume pricing make delivering Umbrella security services more lucrative than ever.

“Small medium businesses, which typically lack in-house IT expertise, are increasingly being targeted by attackers. For MSPs, web security as a service is a very large, zero-friction market opportunity,” says Dima Kumets, MSP product manager for OpenDNS. “OpenDNS has invested in and built out a management infrastructure that enables MSPs to rapidly provision web security services for large user populations. These capabilities dramatically decrease the time they would otherwise spend cleaning up infections and increases margins.”

The Umbrella service prevents users from accessing malicious sites from both on and off-network devices, which allows MSPs to protect both desk-based and mobile workers with one integrated and simplified manage solution, which reduces malware infections.

In December 2011, OpenDNS began previewing DNSCrypt, a technology that significantly improves both the security and privacy of Internet users.

The next month, OpenDNS blocked googleapis.com resulting in hundreds of thousands of sites being mislabeled as phishing sites.
