Microsoft's flagship virtual server hypervisor, Hyper-V, is being heralded by the company as the stepping stone into private cloud computing. In order to help businesses understand the financial benefits and technical advantages of a Hyper-V-based virtual server, the company has announced plans to release a number of advisory reports detailing the software's impact on a number of systems.

To complete this ambitious project, Microsoft is partnering with a number of organizations that provide the hardware necessary to equip a data center with cloud computing technology. These partners will join with Microsoft to outline paths to private cloud computing on their respective products. All of these roads to the cloud focus on Microsoft's Hyper-V as the software guiding the servers.

"Hyper-V has a lot of momentum and there is a lot of demand to take the virtualized data center to the next level. This is a formal effort to bring a lot of what we're doing to bring infrastructure-as-a-service and private cloud together," said Dai Vu, director of solutions marketing in the Windows Server and Cloud Division, in an interview with CRN.com.

Microsoft's efforts to bring the cloud to virtualized data centers through Hyper-V technology is also being pushed by official partnerships with server hosting providers throughout the world. Microsoft has officially partnered with 70 hosting servers, and is looking for more data centers that are willing to deploy Hyper-V as a part of a private cloud hosting environment.
